Academic Background and Teaching

While at the University of Toronto from 1969 – 1988, I was able to garner two 4-year Honours Bachelor of Science degrees -- one in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Math and Physics; and another in Psychology, Philosophy and Anthropology. My Masters education and several degrees are in the History and Philosophy of Science, Medicine and Technology; Social-Cultural Anthropology; Marriage and Family Systems Therapy; Adlerian Psychology; Neuro-Linguistic Programming; and Jungian Depth Psychology. My 1988 University of Toronto Ph.D. is called “Kinship and Culture: A Study of the Kanesatake Mohawk,” the Oka Quebec community I have worked in since 1974. My second Ph.D. thesis at the University of Toronto is on World Culture, Social Anthropology and Jungian Psychology.

I was a Professor of Social-Cultural Anthropology at the University of Toronto from 1978 – 1988, a Professor of Family Studies and Psychology at the University of Guelph from 1982-1987, and a Professor of Art at the Ontario College of Art & Design from 1986 to 1993.

Psychotherapeutic Training and Clinical Work

After my own training in various kinds of ancient and modern Energy Bodywork, including Yoga (Hatha, Raja, Kriya), Meditation, Qi Gong, Tai Qi, Ki, Jin Shin Do, Reiki, Healing Touch, Ericksonian medical hypnotherapy, Emotional Energetic Release, Polarity Therapy, Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) and various others, I incorporated this into my academic research and teaching. In 1980 I became an Instructor in Kundalini Kriya Yoga, Meditation and Qi Gong.

Since 1970 I have been working as a clinician and researcher with the dying, those with cancer, AIDS, auto-immune and other stressful conditions. I started originally at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and Dr. MacKinnon Phillips Hospital in Owen Sound and worked in several medical Clinics in Toronto before starting my own psychotherapy clinic in 1982 in downtown Toronto West. In 1988, a second psychotherapy Clinic was opened in the east side of Toronto.

Having moved to Victoria in 2004, I am no longer working full-time as a clinician after 38 years. Now my work is as a full-time Green REALTOR® and Feng Shui professional.
